In Maths this week, we will be;
In English, we will be planning and writing our own non-chronological reports on our chosen animals. We willthen be moving on to biographical writing with our focus on Jane Goodall and David Attenborough.

On Friday, we will be joining Y6 to work on activities related to the Coronation.
In History, we will be looking at how the Maya Civilisation fits on a timeline compared to the Anglo-Saxon period of British history. We will also be investigating the difficulties the Maya faced in settling in a rain forest.

In PHSE, we will be investigating how the suffragettes went about changing opinions on whether women should have the right to vote.
In History, we will be looking at how the homes of the Maya compared to the homes of the Anglo-Saxons.
In RE, we will be looking at the use of stained glass windows to share beliefs.

In Maths, we will be starting a block of work on fractions.
Lesson 1: Dividing to Make Fractions
Lesson 2: Writing Improper Fractions and Mixed Numbers
Lesson 3: Finding Equivalent Fractions
Lesson 4: Comparing and Ordering Fractions
In English, we will be reading and analysing the classic poem, ‘The Highwayman, by Alfred Noyes. We will then be using the poem as a model for writing our own poetry.
In Science, we will be introducing our knowledge organiser on ‘Earth in Space’.
In Geography, we will be introducing our ‘What is life like in the Alps,’ knowledge organiser.
Our PE this half term will be indoor athletics on Mondays and hockey on Fridays, as always kits should be available every day as there will be occasions when days change.

Monday - comparing and ordering improper fractions.
Tuesday - comparing and ordering mixed numbers.
Wednesday – making number pairs.
Thursday and Friday - adding fractions.
In English, we will be writing effective sentences for use in our narrative poems based on, ‘The Highwayman, by Alfred Noyes. We will be exploring the use of: metaphors, repetition for effect, use of adjectives, similes, alliteration, and use of precise verbs.
In Science, we will be exploring the solar system and the planets and looking at the heliocentric model of the solar system.
In Geography, we will be locating the Alps on maps of the world and of Europe.

In Computing, we will be continuing to explore the use of spreadsheets to compare and order data.
In Geography, we will be producing posters / leaflets promoting the Alps.

In Maths this week, we will be comparing decimals on Monday and Tuesday. On Wednesday we will be writing fractions as decimals. On Thursday and Friday, we will be adding and subtracting decimals.
In English, we will be analying the features of a journal entry and then gathering ideas for writing our own journal based on the adventures of a scientist lost in space.
In Science, we will be introducing our new unit of work on animals including humans (see the Knowledge Organiser above). Our first focus will be, identifying the key stages of a mammal’s life cycle.
In RE, we will be the question - 'How does faith and belief affect the way people live their lives?'
In History, we will be introducing our new unit on 'What life was like in Tudor England' (see Knowledge Organiser above). Our first lesson will see us investigating - 'Fair ruler or tyrant? What was Henry VIII really like?'

In Science, we will be reviewing the key stages of a mammal’s life cycle and then focussing on how gestation varies in different mammals.
In RE, we will be exploring the work of Christian Aid, particularly looking at how faith influences their work.
In History, we will be investigating the death of Anne Boleyn.
In PE, our focus on Mondays will be on multiskills, and on Wednesdays we will be working on map reading and orienteering activities.
In PHSE we will be exploring the role of community in our lives.
Week beginning 6th March
In Maths this week, we will be completing our unit on decimals by looking at rounding decimals and then consolidating the last couple of weeks work. We will be reviewing our work on fractions before moving on to look at percentages.
In English, we will be returning to our journals based on being stranded on Mars.
In Science, we will be learning about foetal development and investigating the hand spans of differently aged children.
In RE, we will be exploring the work of street pastors and The Salvation Army, particularly looking at how faith influences their work.
In History, we will be investigating why Henry VIII had so many wives.
In PE, our focus on Mondays will be on multiskills, and on Wednesdays we will be working on map reading and orienteering activities.
In PHSE, we will be continuing to explore the role of community in our lives and looking at ways in which we could improve our community.

Week beginning 5th September
In Maths, our first three lessons are on ‘Reading and Writing Numbers to 100 000’, before we move on to ‘Comparing Numbers to 1 000 000’.
In English, we will be reading and analysing a version of the myth of Prometheus and Pandora. We will also be exploring the use of synonyms and developing vocabulary.
In Science, we will be introducing our knowledge organiser on ‘Materials and their properties’.
In History, we will be introducing our Romans knowledge organiser.
In PE, we have gymnastics on Monday and swimming on Thursday.
Our focus in Art, is on Vincent van Gogh and we will be experimenting with different types of shading especially scumbling.
In RE, we will be looking at what it means to be a Hindu.
Week beginning 12th September
In Maths, we will be ‘Comparing Numbers to 1 000 000’, and making ‘Number Patterns’.
In English, we will be planning and writing our own stories based on the story of Pandora.
In Science, and in History we will continuing to learn the information on our knowledge organisers.
In Computing we will be looking at internet safety.

In Maths, we are moving onto our unit on addition and subtraction. We will be focussing on addition for the first few lessons.
In English, we will be writing and following instructions (hopefully we will end up with a tasty treat!).
In Science, we will be sorting and classifying materials based on their properties.
In History, we will be looking how Rome grew from its founding by Romulus and Remus up to the period of Julius Caesar.
In PE, we have gymnastics on Monday.
On Thursday, we have our trip to Wild Pines to look forward to. In addition to the information sent in the previous post of the 9th September, it is important the children are wearing long sleeved tops and full length trousers / tracksuit bottoms.
Week beginning 19th September
In Maths, we will be looking at rounding numbers and consolidating our work on place value.
In English, we will be completing and editing our Pandora stories. We will then be moving on to reading and writing instructions.
In History, we will be investigating the story of Romulus and Remus and the founding of Rome.
In RE, we will be looking at the life of Mahatma Gandhi.
In French, we will be revising how to greet someone and say our names.

In Maths, we are moving on from addition to focus on subtraction.
In English, we will be looking at a myth from the Viking culture in preparation for writing our own versions of the story the following week.
In Science, we will be investigating how to keep things warm by testing how well different materials insulate.
In History, we will be finding out about Julius Caesar. We will also be designing our own Roman coins.
In PE, we have gymnastics on Monday and swimming on Thursday.
Week beginning 10th October
In Maths, we will be completing our work on subtraction. We are then reviewing our place value work before moving on to finding multiples.
In English, we will be writing our own versions of the story of Thor’s missing hammer.
In History, we will be finding out what life was like in Britain before the arrival of the Romans
In PE, we have gymnastics on Monday and swimming on Thursday.
Week beginning 17th October
In Maths, we will be;
In History, we will be comparing Roman and Celtic soldiers. In Art, we will be drawing Roman soldiers.
In Science, we are looking at materials that are soluble in water.
In PE, we have gymnastics on Monday and swimming on Thursday.

In English, we will be basing our work on, "The Journal of Iliona, A Young Slave" by Richard Platt.
In Maths, we will be looking at multiplication - starting with 2 and 3 digit numbers by a single digit, before moving on to 4-digits by 1-digit and then 2-digits by 2-digits.
In Topic, we will be investigating how the Romans invaded Britain.
PE will be dance on Monday and invasion games (outdoors) on Friday.
We will be creating artwork based on poppies in preparation for our Remembrance service on Friday.
In RE, we will be looking at the importance of the commandments in Christian religion.
In Science, we will be introducing our next Knowledge Organiser on changing materials. (See Downloads above)

In English, we will be continuing to base our work on, "The Journal of Iliona, A Young Slave" by Richard Platt. This will include exploring how to write effective sentences for a historical diary and researching Roman Gladiator events that involved animals.
In Maths, we will be starting the week by completing our work on multiplying 2- or 3-digit numbers by a 2-digit number. We will then move on to dividing by 10, 100 or 1000 and finish the week with looking at how to handle remainders in a division calculation.
In Topic, we will be investigating; “Why did Boudicca lead a revolt against the Romans?”
PE will be dance on Monday and invasion games (outdoors) on Friday. A reminder that PE kit must be available in school at all times as days do occasionally have to change.
In Science, we will be exploring how to use evaporation to recover solute from a solution and looking at different types or reversible and irreversible changes.
This week is anti-bullying week, so we will be doing some activities on bullying throughout the week. On Monday it is odd socks day and on Friday children are able to wear non-uniform in return for a donation to Children in Need.

In Maths, we will be dividing with and without remainders. We will then be reviewing our previous unit on addition and subtraction.
In Topic, we will be investigating; “How the Romans changed Britain?”
In Science we will be investigating reversible and irreversible changes.
On Monday we will be watching the England World Cup game in PE and it is invasion games (outdoors) on Friday. A reminder that PE kit must be available in school at all times as days do occasionally have to change.

In Maths, our focus this week is on solving word problems.

In Computing, we will be developing our coding skills.
