Welcome to Year 1!

Term 2
Welcome to Spring Term in Year 1! This term we will be following Read, Write, Inc. Phonics and ‘Write Stuff’ for English and Maths No Problem for Maths. Science topics will be looking at the seasons of Winter and Spring and ‘Animals, Including Humans’. Our main topic is ‘What is the weather like in the UK?’ which is geography-focussed. Children will learn about the seasonal and daily weather patterns in the United Kingdom. PE will be Invasion Games on Wednesdays and Gymnastics on Fridays, children will need kit for both indoors and outdoors.  We will continue to post regular updates via Class Dojo, where you can stay connected to your child’s learning.

Term 1
We would like to welcome you and your child to Year 1. This term we will be following Read, Write, Inc. Phonics for our English and Maths No Problem. Science topics will be looking at the seasons of Autumn and Winter and Materials. Our main topic is Heroes. This covers comparing nurses such as Florence Nightingale and Edith Cavell to nurses of today, and learning about the role firefighters played in helping to stop The Great Fire of London and comparing the techniques used then, to those used now. PE will be dance and striking and fielding and will be on Tuesdays and Fridays, children should leave their PE kits at school.

Maths
The children have daily Maths No Problem lessons, we use lots of practical resources to enhance children's understanding of numbers. Children also have the opportunity to explore numbers in our classroom and outdoor area independently.  


Read Write Inc
As a school, we follow the Read Write Inc phonics programme and children have daily Read Write Inc lessons. Children also have the opportunity to explore multi-sensory reading and writing activities in our classroom and outdoor area independently.
