The week ahead 19th November
​In English this week we will be focusing on recounts particularly diary entries using characters from Michael Morpurgo's 'Poppy Field'.
In Maths the main focus is on fractions. We will be comparing fractions, simplifying fractions, adding fractions and subtracting fractions.
In Science we will be investigating the effects of smoking on the body and looking at other factors which can influence our health.
In our topic work we will be looking at the idea of 'fair trade'.
​Thank you to those children who took part in the Remembrance Day Parade. All who did represented the school impeccably.

This week we will be using Michael Morpurgo's latest book Poppy Fields to further explore the events of World War One and the significance of the Poppy.
In Maths the main focus this week will be on fractions.
​The week ahead 29th October
In Maths we will be focusing on prime numbers and reviewing our work on multiples and factors.
In English, as we approach the centenary of the end of World War One, we will be looking at the importance of the poppy as a symbol of remembrance and investigating the poetry of World War 1. We will be sharing some of this work with you during the drop-in sessions on Thursday 8th November.
In PE the focus is on indoor athletics and team building.
n Science we will be continuing to look at how exercise affects our bodies, particularly our hearts.
​Student Leadership Roles
This week, after much debating,  we announced who had been selected as  our Prefects, House Captains, Head Girl and Head Boy.
​​Mini Police
The results of our Mini Police elections were announced on Thursday
​Week Beginning 15th October
This week we will be holding elections for the role of mini police officers (Thursday). We will also be announcing who has been selected as our house captains and prefects.
In English we will be starting to look at explanation texts and linking this to our topic work as we investigate issues around the use of plastics.
In Maths the focus will be on factors and multiples.

Week beginning 8th October
In English we will be working on developing plots, characters and settings. We will also be focusing on the editing and redrafting of our work. 
In Maths the main focus will be on dividing by 2 digit numbers and applying this to solving word problems.
In PE the emphasis will be on team building and developing our net/wall games.
In Art we will be creating water colours in the style of Shaun Tan
​Week beginning 1st October
This week we will be continuing to use the work of Shaun Tan to inspire our writing.
In Maths we will be working on using the four operations on whole numbers.
In Science we will be looking at the effects of exercise on the body.
In Topic we will be comparing life in London, Rome and Juneau. We will also be exploring the effects and causes of pollution on our environment.
In RE we will be exploring the use of symbols within Christianity.

Week beginning 24th September
With the 11+ tests now completed we will be starting to settle into a more regular routine.
We will be looking at some past SATs papers as part of our ongoing assessment program.
In English, we will be basing our writing on the short stories and animations of Shaun Tan.
In Science we will be looking at the effects of exercise on the body.
In Geography we will be comparing t​he physical and human features of London, Rome and Juneau.

​What a start to Year 6! 
​We could not be more proud of our pupils this week. Straight in with learning, new rules and expectations and everyone has taken the transition from Year 5 to Year 6 in their stride.
