Year 6
End of term arrangements
Dear Parents/carers,
Just a few end of term arrangements to share with you as we come to the end of this school year.
Year 6 charity day for Skegness Lifeboat will be held on Wednesday 12th July 2017 and parents are invited to visit from 3pm. There will be a cake stall so all contributions will be greatly received.
On Thursday 13th July we have arranged a fun day for Year 6 pupils.  Swimming will go ahead but at the earlier slot of 9.15am, followed by a visit to the cinema to see Despicable Me 3, a trip to Skegness Aquarium and the Model Village. We will return to school by the end of the school day. The children who are camping at school that evening need to return to school at 7pm. Further details will follow.
On Friday 14th July 2017 we are having an activity day on the school field, consisting of a climbing wall, football zorbing and water zorbing. Pupils need to ensure they have tracksuit bottoms, a long sleeve top and trainers for the day.
Another of our end of term treats is going to be a visit to the beach on Monday 17th July in the afternoon, weather permitting.  We will be having a picnic, playing beach games and having an ice cream. Your child will need to bring a packed lunch in a disposable carrier bag and bring a sun hat and/or sun cream. Your child may bring a pair of shorts to change into but they must wear their school t-shirt. We will be returning to school before 3.15pm.
During the morning of the last day (Wednesday 19th July 2017) the children are allowed to have a t-shirt signed by children and staff. It is important that they bring a clean polo shirt to wear for the Leavers’ Service.
Thank you for all your support this year.  We hope your child has enjoyed their time in Year 6 and have a memorable end to their time at the Richmond School.

Our Blog

Welcome to Year 6!

A Happy New Year to you all.

This term we will be continuing our English and Maths work, building on and revising all areas in preparation for the SATs in May. The work will focus on giving children opportunities to apply the skills they are learning in a range of different situations, both within English and Maths and across other areas of the curriculum.
Our main topic focus for this term is Wild Waters & Disasters. The majority of work covered will develop the children’s geographical knowledge. They will be learning about earthquakes, volcanoes, other natural disasters and how rivers are formed.
In science we will be learning about evolution and inheritance as well as living things in their habitats. Following this we will be revising and assessing all other scientific topic areas.

Within PSHE the children will work on two SEAL units: Going for Goals and It’s Good to be Me. They will also learn about keeping themselves safe in a range of situations. We will also be taking part in some basic First Aid training.
Staff from Alford Grammar will continue to be working with us to teach Computer Science.  The pupils will be learning a range of ICT skills.

[Image result for hockey clipart] PE will be on MONDAY and TUESDAY, but there will be occasions when this changes so PE kit should be in school all week. It is VERY IMPORTANT that all pupils have a dark tracksuit and trainers in school as they will be outside in a range of weather conditions!

In preparation for the transition to secondary school homework will change this term.  Pupils will be given a piece of both English and Maths homework each week on a Friday which will be due in the following Friday.  In addition to this, there will be a selection of topic-based activities which the children are encouraged to complete with you.
We would like to invite you into school during the morning of Tuesday 7th March 2017 to see us at work within our classrooms.

We would like to thank you for your continued support and look forward to working with you again during this term. If you have any concerns please come and speak to us.
