​The Final Week!

On Monday we have an activity day with Group Together lined up.
On Tuesday the rest of the school are moving up so it is time for Y6 to go back to reception for the day!
On Thursday it is Fun Splash in the morning followed by a picnic and activities on the beach.
On Friday it is the Leaver's Service followed by a picnic lunch.
Charity Day
Thank you to everyone who supported our Charity Day on Friday 13th July - we will let you know how much we have raised once we finish counting up!
 
Eden Camp

We had a great day out in the sunshine at Eden Camp learning about World War 2.

 
Week beginning 11th June
In English we will be writing letters, diaries and recounts based on the adventures of William Beech and Tom Oakley from 'Goodnight Mr Tom'.
In Maths we will be undertaking another Murder Mystery Investigation and we will be exploring spirals.
Shadows will be our main focus in Science this week.
In our topic work we will finding our about Winston Churchill and other WW2 leaders.

On Friday we will be visiting the windmill at Burgh-le-Marsh to take part in some creative workshops. We will also be visiting the three churches in the village and making comparisons.
Week beginning 4th June
In English we will be basing our work around 'Goodnight Mr Tom' by Michelle Magorian. This links in well with our World War 2 Topic  work where we will be investigating the causes of the war and  creating timelines of the major events.
In Maths we will be using our problem solving skills whilst investigating some 'Murder Mysteries'!
On Thursday, we will be going swimming at the Embassy Pool (apart from the cricket team - who have a tournament at Skegness Cricket Club, weather permitting). Our other PE lesson will be gymnastics on Wednesday afternoon. 
In Computing we will be exploring networks and how computers communicate with each other.
Science: we have a visitor coming in to talk to us about Evolution and later in the week we will be investigating light and shadows.
Footputt - 22nd May
As one of our post-SATs treats we are going to visit a new attraction on the seafront Footputt. We will be going on Tuesday 22nd May. Miss Leetham's class will be leaving school at 9:30am and will return at 11:00am. Mr Ball's class will be leaving school at 10:30am and will return at midday.
If you are able to help by walking with us please speak to your child's class teacher.

​The week ahead 30th April - 4th May
This week we will be continuing to prepare for SATs by revising , amongst other things, modal verbs and relative clauses in English. In Maths, we will be focussing on multiplying and dividing as well as developing reasoning skills..
In Science we will be investigating different types of electrical circuits and writing biographies about Thomas Edison.
For PE his week we will be doing athletics with Mrs Potts on Monday and on Friday we will be working on striking and fielding gamesl.
The week ahead 23rd -27th April
This week we will be going through a set of practice SATs papers.
In Science we will be investigating electrical conductors and insulators.
For PE his week we will be doing athletics with Mrs Potts on Monday and on Tuesday we will be working with Justine Lucas a current England Rugby international.
The week ahead 16th - 20th April
In Maths we will be revising place value, rounding and calculation methods.
in English we will be revising punctuation and grammar using a Harry Potter theme. We will also be writing an extended story based on a visit to the seaside in the past and te present.
In Science we will be beginning our unit on electricity.
​The week ahead 12th -16th March
In Maths we will be focussing on fractions and percentages.
In English we will be exploring the story of Alma and working on improving our descriptions of settings and characters.

In our topic work we will be reporting on the impact the opening of the railway had on our town.
​Week beginning 26th February
The Week Ahead:
In Maths we will be working on calculations involving larger numbers and decimals, using all 4 operations.
In English we will be continuing our study of Skellig. You can read some of our Skellig related work here.
World Book Day - Thursday is World Book Day so we will be focusing on related activities during the day.
In Topic we will be creating maps of the British seaside and comparing some of the well known seaside places with Skegness.
Week beginning 19th February​
PE for this half term will be on Mondays and Wednesdays. 
On Mondays, we will be working with Mrs Potts on invasion games so
outdoor kit will be needed. 
On Wednesdays, we will be creating and performing dance routines so indoor kit (shorts and t-shirts) will be needed. As always PE kits should be available in school at all times in case of changes to the timetable.
In English, we are continuing to study Skellig with our focus for this week being the correct punctuation of dialogue in our writing.
In Maths, the focus is on measuring and calculating; areas, perimeters and volumes.

Parent Drop-in
It was good to see so many parents joining us on Thursday morning.
The Week Ahead 5th-9th February
​In Maths this week we will be focussing on 2d shapes and calculation strategies.
In English we will be reading more of Skellig and developinging our stories. We will also be debating the subject of home schooling and exploring the relationship between Michael and Mina.
We will also be focussing on Internet Safety.

We have been developing our First Aid skills with Mr Porter
Bikeability
We recently completed a week's cycle safety training with Outspoken Training
On Friday 17th November we took part in a sponsored walk around around Skegness with the Mayor and the Town Crier raising funds for Children in Need.
​On Friday 2oth October we took part in this year's #WearItWild Day and raised £41 in the process. Thank you to all those who took the time to create a costume.
Tuesday 17th October
Some of the year group took part in building shelter activities at school, whilst the rest of the year group went to find out about the Rotary Club's ShelterBox project.
